Little Mosque on the Prairie is a television sitcom series that focuses on a small community of Canadian Muslims residing in a fictional small town of Mercy, Saskatchewanin in the Canadian prairies. The community is headed by their leader Yasir Hamoudi who is married to Sarah, a Caucasian Christian convert. Mercy is also home to other complex characters such as Amaar Rashid, a young ex-lawyer, now an imam, and Fatima Dinssa, a Nigerian Muslim running the local diner. The town’s Muslim community lives harmoniously with their Christian neighbours; however, friction does surface from time to time.
A Goal for Freedom - Women’s Football in Kabul is a documentary that follows Madina Azizi–an Afghan football coach and former national player–and her girls in their everyday life as footballers in Kabul. Football for girls is still taboo in Afghan society and Madina Azizi and other women footballers have to fight discrimination and hostility every day. A Goal for Freedom shows the struggle of an entire generation of young women in traditional Afghanistan and through Madina’s eyes, we get to know the Kabul of Afghan women.
